LATE FOR LUNCH is a series that captures short glimpses into the stories and daily lives of some of those sorts of people – the ones who have invested all of their time, talent and tenacity into turning their art into their livelihoods.

Episode 1 features entrepreneur and prolific milliner, Crystal Birch, showing us around her studio while telling us about eccentric family members, business partners and the vast possibilities of working with your first glue gun.

This episode was recorded right before the national lockdown was enforced in South Africa (which is why there are no kinds of PPE present in the video – despite having every other sort of headwear on full display). Since then, the way art is made and experienced has changed significantly since that simpler time in Crystal’s studio.

The work certainly hasn’t gotten easier, and lunch breaks are probably fewer and farther between all that needs to be done right now. But we hope to explore those changes in this series. In the meantime, enjoy Episode 1 of LATE FOR LUNCH.
